Red Bull House of Art Detroit
Something really exciting is happening in Detroit, and so many people still don't know about it.
Enter The Red Bull House of Art Detroit. Located in Detroit's Eastern Market district, this cavernous underground space, once used as a prohibition hideaway has been transformed into a raw artist studio space.
This is the 6th cycle in the art gallery space where artists who work in a variety of media, from oil paintings, to fiber to steel sculptures get a chance to show Detroit what they can do. It is a chance for a new crop of artists to get some amazing exposure.
I have been to every one of the new cycle openings. It is jam packed with people, energy and great music. I even saw one of the members of the band the Rascals getting down on the dance floor this past cycle.
The artists have just eight weeks to create an entire body of work for the exhibition. “It’s supposed to represent a variety of different artists and mediums,” said Matt Eaton, who curated the show. “I’m curating personalities, people who are passionate about what they do and the process. I think it turned out being a diplomatic broad selection of work without forcing my taste.
"The mission here, obviously, is to give people wings," said Matt Eaton, director and curator of Red Bull House of Art. "It's absolutely not a matter of finding the coolest artists. It's a matter of finding the most passionate artists with the most to lose if they take any risks, and giving them an opportunity to really take risks."

Today is the first day of the rest of my life.........
Recently I gave notice at work. Not because I hate my job, but because I have decided it is time to move on to bigger and better things. I am considering heading back to college for my Masters in Fine Art and Curation. My last day is November 3, which coincides with the opening of Detroit Assemblage at The Janice Charach Gallery. So I figured instead of deleting my blog, I would become a blogger of gallery openings. So invite me to your openings!!! I will be reviewing the art, the artists and maybe even the food. I mean, who better to blog about these things then me, a reformed gallery director.
Stay tuned..........

ELS 4 GATS
Els 4 Gats, "Out With the New, in with the Old" opened to rave reviews from the community. This exhibit highlights a year long collaboration from artists Tony Roko & Bowen Kline.
"The exhibit encourages viewers to take an intellectual look at the works, examing the order & process of two contrasting artists working simulaneously, as a 'third' emerges.

The gallery is happy to once again collaborate with the College for Creative Studies and join Michigan in celebrating Glass month. The featured artists this year are from The Detroit Glass House, Taylor Kurrle and Andrea Oleniczak, both graduates of CCS.
In the upper gallery some of the finest ceramic artists from Michigan show off their work. At the opening we had Deanna Clyne do an on site demo of wheel throwing.

Six months ago the gallery invited artists around the world to illustrate blank journals. The first person to receive the journal chose a theme. The journal was then passed from artist to artist, each of whom created a work based on the theme.
From now until December 16th join us during regular gallery hours and create your own page.
Here are just a few sample pages from the journals we have received back.
